go greenの英語版バイオグラフィーを書き直しました。いい機会なので、これから数回に分けて日本語訳を添えてブログで紹介したいと思います。１回目は「なんでgo greenという名前なの？」

“go green” was formed by Kenji in 1995, as a three piece (Guitar-Bass-Drums) rock band in Tokyo. He used to play in several bands as a bass player under Japanese indie music scene in the early 90s (e.g. Love Chameleons, Spiritual Cowboys).

The band name came from several reasons. The color green reminds forest, nature, grass, hope and growth, while in others, it is associated with sickness, death, envy, inexperience (or cannabis?). This dual nature of light and darkness was fascinating and also symbolized their music. Or it was simply Kenji’s most favorite color. “go” in front of “green”, that had a nice ring to it and sounded like getting a boost. That’s why the band was named “go green”, which was much earlier than the recently used “eco-friendly” meaning.

90年代初期、東京のインディーズシーンにおいてラヴ・カメレオンズ、スピリチュアル・カウボーイズといったバンドでベースプレイヤーとして活動していたKenjiによって、３ピースバンドとして1995年に結成された「go green」。

go greenというバンド名の由来にはいくつかの要素がある。例えばグリーンという色には、森林、自然、草原、希望、成長などのナチュラルでポジティブなイメージがある一方、欧米では、病、死、妬み、世間知らず、（あるいは大麻？）といったネガティブなイメージもある。この光と闇の二面性に惹かれ、またそれがバンドの音を象徴するものだった。あるいは、ただ単にKenjiの一番好きな色が昔からグリーンだったから。「グリーン」の前に冠した「ゴー」は、発音した時にゴロが良かったことと、「弾みや勢いがつく」意味を込めた。そんな訳でバンドは「go green（ゴー・グリーン）」と名付けられた。近年よく見かける「エコ・フレンドリー」なんかの意味で使われるより、ずっと以前の話だ。
